Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 April 2026

Dish Aligner: Freesat UK ("the app") is developed and published by Rik Watson. This policy explains what information the app accesses and how it is used.

Summary

The app collects no personal data and sends nothing to any server (except an optional postcode lookup). Everything the app does happens entirely on your device.

Location

If you choose "Use My Location", the app requests access to your device's GPS. Your location is used solely to calculate dish pointing angles for the selected satellite. It is:

You can use a postcode instead of GPS — no location permission is needed in that case.

Motion & compass

The app requests access to the device's magnetometer (compass sensor) to show a live bearing toward the satellite. This sensor data is processed on-device in real time and is never stored or transmitted.

Satellite calculation

All satellite pointing calculations (azimuth, elevation, LNB skew) are performed entirely on-device using standard geostationary orbit geometry. No network requests are made for these calculations.

Postcode lookup

If you enter a UK postcode, the app sends only that postcode string to the public postcodes.io API to obtain a latitude and longitude. No other information is sent. postcodes.io is a free, open-source service — see their privacy information.

Analytics & advertising

The app contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising frameworks, and no crash-reporting services. No usage data of any kind is collected.

Children

The app does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a revised date. Given that no data is collected, material changes are unlikely.
